Hot High Lawn Buttered Rum

Hot Buttered Rum 1.jpeg

Hot Buttered Rum dates back to about the 1650’s when colonists began adding distilled rum to their hot beverages. The tradition has remained a New England staple, making Hot Buttered Rum one of our favorite (and nostalgic) winter cocktails. In our recipe, we celebrate our local producers by using High Lawn Farm Sea Salted Butter and Bee Haven Apiary’s Wildflower Honey.

Ingredients

  • 4 Oz. High Lawn Farm Sea Salted Butter (softened to room temperature)

  • 1/2 C. Light brown sugar

  • 1/2 - 1 Tbs. Bee Haven Honey

  • 1 Tsp. Vanilla extract

  • 1 Tsp. Cinnamon

  • 1 Tsp. Clove

  • 1 Tsp. Nutmeg

  • 1 Tsp. Allspice

  • 1.5 Oz. Dark rum

  • 6 Oz. Hot water

  • Whipped cream and cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients with the butter, honey, and vanilla extract; beat until a smooth paste is formed

  • Add 2 heaping tablespoons of spiced paste to a mug with a shot (1.5 oz.) of dark rum

  • Remaining paste can be stored in an airtight container for future use

  • Pour 6 oz. of hot water over the spiced paste and rum; stir until paste is completely dissolved

  • Top with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick (optional)

  • Serve immediately

The perfect way to warm up on a cold winter night!
